Zero, is the only credit card that offers a feeless foreign card that can be used anywhere around the globe. The idea of releasing this Credit Card originated from the fact that a lot of Brits (using Santander cards) going on a holiday are planning to sharply watch their budget this time. Out of 5 Brits, 4 of them definitely want to make a trip. Ten million people intend to decrease their holiday expenditure.

Some statistics had it that the biggest cut back was on eating out, some 54% claimed they would want to refrain from this luxury while 46% claimed to cut down their money spending. The remaining 40% wanted to cut down expenses involving their accommodation.

Its director, Mr. Callum Gibbson, said that Britons could make their cash go further when they are abroad by paying in local currency thus avoiding a charismatic currency fee just for converting their purchase to an excellent thing. He also added that this credit card does not charge any fee for the conversion of transactions that were made in foreign currency.  He also maintained that the customers did not have to indulge in paying extra fee for a cash advance while holidaying.

FRAUD WARNING OVER TRAVEL INSURANCE http://financemate.co.uk/news/fraud-warning-over-travel-insurance/ http://financemate.co.uk/news/fraud-warning-over-travel-insurance/#comments Sat, 22 Aug 2009 09:05:32 +0000 admin http://financemate.co.uk/news/?p=711

The most horrifying finding of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) was that there were 4,300 dishonest Travel Insurance claims worth £5m the previous year.

This has raised a red alert among the insurers and overseas police forces. As a result, ABI said that if anyone was caught cheating their insurers, then they would have to face higher insurance costs and other problems pertaining to their motor and house insurance. Both, the insurers as well as the overseas police forces are now more vigilant than before and have maintained industry-wide databases regarding the fraudulent claims. If one is held over a fraudulent claim, then he will face the consequences. He won’t be lent money so easily in future and he may also face prosecution.

The ABI’s director, Mr. Nick Sterling claimed that travel insurances were there to cover if things went miserably wrong when you were on a vacation and not for false claims that people were coming up with. ABI group also said that insurers were on a search for potentially fake claims.
An instance of a fake claim is as follows:
A photographer claimed £8000 worth camera’s alleged theft.

How Young Drivers can avoid the Pitfall of High Insurance Premiums http://financemate.co.uk/news/how-young-drivers-can-avoid-the-pitfall-of-high-insurance-premiums/ http://financemate.co.uk/news/how-young-drivers-can-avoid-the-pitfall-of-high-insurance-premiums/#comments Tue, 04 Aug 2009 10:57:14 +0000 admin http://financemate.co.uk/news/?p=694

Many car insurance companies are unwilling to offer Car Insurance for drivers of younger age. The statistics of road accidents substantiate these companies’ prudence, as perpetrators of accidents are more among drivers of age 21 or below than in any other age groups. Consequently insurance companies are charging younger drivers with high insurance premiums.

Make sensible car selection for younger drivers to slash insurance premium. It is better to opt for lesser flashier vehicles with smaller engines, as they are less likely to smash slower cars. By purchasing older cars, young drivers can avail cheaper cover for theft, fire and third party as a substitute for comprehensive cover.

Students with good grades are offered discounts. There are insurance companies proffering discounts for fitting Data Recorders to ensure parental monitoring of car speed. Adding the younger driver to the parent’s insurance is another alternative, even if kids make car payments. Augment deductible (amount paid before advent of insurance company). Young drivers finishing “Pass Plus Course” of Driving Standards Agency get reasonable discount for their broader experience of motoring conditions.

The AA is asking homeowners to check their insurance policies carefully to ensure that they are getting worth the value.

Though most buy a combined home and Content Insurance policy, AA insurance feels that it might not be the most sensible thing to do. A combined policy could be expensive too.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said that a good number of homeowners would save money from buying policies from different providers. However, if you are purchasing a policy through a broker a single policy could be effective.

The November Mintel Home Insurance says that one-third of homeowners chose to take out home and contents cover with their mortgage provider though there were chances of saving money had they shopped around a bit.

All homeowners have been warned by Halifax Home Insurance to take positive measures to avoid subsidence risk as temperatures are expected to soar this summer and less rains expected than previous year. Homeowners leaving especially in the south-east of England should be cautious of high risk because of clay-based soil and higher temperatures.

Halifax also expects a rise in the number of claims connected with higher temperatures. Association of British Insurers (ABI) reveals that the insurance industry received more than 144,000 subsidence claims in the course of the past four years which amounted to £825 million. Neil Curling of Halifax Home Insurance says that though homeowners are not to be blamed for subsidence, people should take sufficient measures to prevent subsidence and the inconveniences associated with it. Halifax advises its customers that they should immediately inform them of they notice cracks on the walls.

Foreign exchange specialist HiFX suggests that in the coming days, British Travel Insurance customers could find their holidays less expensive. According to HiFX, pound is likely to become stronger following the announcement of European Central Bank or ECB that sterling was up by 0.36 per cent against the Euro. Currency strategist Marc Cogliatti said that though foreign trips could become less expensive it will not reach the low as it was two years ago.

Currently, the pound is 15 per cent higher as compared to what it was last year. Cogliatti therefore suggests that now is perhaps the best time for travel insurance customers to visit places like South Africa which is also hosting the Confederations Cup.
