Health Cards set to expire for Holidaymakers

If you are planning a holiday, do not forget to renew your European Health Insurance card (EHIC). Insurance cards of millions of holidaymakers are set to expire by the end of this month. Though three out of five people have an EHIC, almost 68% of them are not aware of when it expires, claims the Department of Health.

The survey conducted by the Department of Health also reveals that most do not seek help when they fall ill on a trip to a foreign land despite the reduced expenses for EHIC holders. The card offers access to healthcare to 25 European Union countries, and to countries like Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein, on the same terms as the country’s own citizens. Hilary Jones, GMTV doctor states that it is essential that all UK citizens should carry a valid EHIC while travelling within Europe and comprehensive travel insurance as well. While you are on a holiday, the last thing that you would like to do is footing expensive medical bills! EHIC can be taken online and delivered at your doorstep within seven days.
